The General Meeting

The general meeting for this month will be held on Tuesday, May 12 starting at 7 p.m. at:

Frank and Camille's Keyboard Center
229B Glen Cove Road
Carle Place, New York
(516) 333-2811

Please note: Frank and Camille's closes at 8 p.m. The meeting must begin promptly.

This month's technical class will be given by Ruth Zeiner of Allied Piano LakeOne USA. Her topic for the presentation is "Dampp-Chaser -- What's New, and What's Old?" Ruth received a Field Expert certificate for having installed 1,500 systems in 2000 - 15 years ago! She will discuss the current system with the H-5 Humidistat, which may not be familiar to many of us, including all its features. Older humidistats, tanks, and hardware will be compared to bring everyone up to speed on installing and servicing Piano Life Saver Systems. Ruth will be ready, willing, and able to assist all with our installation questions, parts availability for all generations of systems, and interpretation of the results you find in pianos in the field.

The Executive Committee will meet prior to the general meeting at 5 p.m. at the Carle Place Diner, on the northeast corner of Old Country Road and Glen Cove Road.

Next month's meeting will be our year-end dinner party, to be held on Tuesday evening June 9, 2015 at 7 p.m. Due to the great success of last year's feast, and by popular request, it will again be at the highly acclaimed Spanish restaurant (New York Times):

Sangria 71
71 Hillside Avenue
Williston Park, New York 11596
(516) 246-9778

The full-course dinner is $50 per person, which includes unlimited wine, beer, or sangria. We hope everyone will plan to attend. Further details will appear in next month's newsletter. Please send your reservations/payment to our treasurer:

Tech Tip
by Michael Slavin, Chapter President

I always keep a box of surgical vinyl or latex gloves in the shop, and a few in my tool case, for certain messy projects that arise. On average, a box of 100 count usually costs about $10-12. I have found that some of the Asian supermarkets in our area (particularly the Korean H-Mart) carry boxes of thin clear vinyl gloves 200 count for about only $4, which are perfect for lightweight projects such as gluing, painting, and lubricating. These gloves are primarily used for food preparation and handling, but are an inexpensive option for some piano work.
