Minutes of the November Meeting
by Marty Dinerstein - Secretary

The November meeting of Nassau PTG was held on November 9, 2003 at the church in Baldwin. Five members and one guest attended. We had the minutes read and the treasurer's report. Mike Slavin reminded us of the party on December 2 at Villa Leone Restaurant on Union Turnpike and Lakeville Road in Lake Success. Our president, Paul Eccardt, stated that Marilyn Heischober had applied for associate status. The chapter agreed to discuss this at a later meeting as well as the poor attendance. We also noted that the Suffolk chapter has better attendance. Anyone wishing to attend the party should contact Paul Keogler at 631-242-0963. The cost is $30 per person. Allan Schumacker said that our ads look poorly scanned in the newsletter and we suggested contacting the advertisers for new copies. Our business meeting ended at 7:30 PM.

Our technical was by Dr. Bonnie Forman-Franco, an audiologist. She discussed the anatomy and physiology of the ear and the effects of various conditions upon it. Excessive noise and repeated noises can cause damage to our hearing, although we may not realize it. We as tuners have to more protective of our hearing while we are working. One solution is ear protectors. They can be custom or mass produced. Only the custom molded ones will actually protect us and they must be fitted by an audiologist. Dr. Franco offered to give ear tests to any member at no cost, as well as a discount on any special appliances needed. We thank Dr. Franco for an interesting and informative presentation and Mike Slavin for arranging her visit.
