Proposed Minutes of the October Meeting
by Richard Liptzin - Secretary

A regular meeting of the Long Island Nassau Chapter, PTG was held on October 13, 2015, at Frank and Camille's Keyboard Center in Westbury. The meeting was called to order at 7 p.m. by President Michael Slavin. Five members were in attendance.

The technical was presented by Bill Maguire of the Long Island-Suffolk Chapter PTG. Bill demonstrated many tools he perfected and custom made, and many custom tools and jigs created by Joe Sciortino. With each tool he gave a brief history of how it was made, what it is used for, and possibly where to get one or how to make it. Bill was very excited to show us the Insta-Coiler, invented by Joe Sciortino. He commented that every technician should have one in his tool chest. He demonstrated its use and informed us where to buy one. Some of Bill's tools included custom filing and voicing tools, which he explained how to make. He demonstrated a jig created by Joe Sciortino that had many uses besides holding upright action in place, and a compressor tool used to push tuning pins into a pinblock. Many other custom tools were shown by Bill, but you had to be there to see how ingenious these tools are. They included lid and filing supports, damper felt removal trays, pliers to tighten damper lever screws, modified capstan wrenches, backcheck removal tools, knuckle restoration, special micrometers, as well as stringing tools and installation procedures, and spring making tools. Bill pointed out that technicians that retire sometimes donate or sell their tools, and it is definitely advisable to keep an eye out for this.

The meeting was adjourned at 8:15 p.m.
