The General Meeting

The general meeting for this month will be held on Tuesday, November 12 starting at 7 p.m. at:

Frank and Camille's Keyboard Center
229B Glen Cove Road
Carle Place, New York
(516) 333-2811

Please note: Frank and Camille's closes at 8 p.m. The meeting must begin promptly.

This month's technical will be a continuation of the September voicing class presented by our old friend Lee Dobrins from the Long Island-Suffolk County Chapter PTG. There was too much information to be presented all at once, and the membership requested that Lee return to complete the presentation. Lee will offer his approach and techniques for voicing. His descripton of his class:

Voicing

In our every day work tuning, most of us seldom have been required to voice a piano. My skills in voicing, because of this, were rather limited as well. Only since being involved in total restoration of high-end pianos, was it necessary for me to do voicing well, and have a prospective customer hopefully say "this is the best sounding piano I have heard since I started looking for one". Even if you don’t do many high-end pianos, some of these techniques can get you out of a sticky situation with a customer who says, "This note sounds funny".

This technical will try to cover some of the voicing techniques, definitions, and why we do certain things to achieve the results we would like to get, as time permits.

The Executive Committee will meet prior to the general meeting at 5 p.m. at the Carle Place Diner, on the northeast corner of Old Country Road and Glen Cove Road.

The October meeting was a tour of the Steinway & Sons factory in Astoria, led by David Kirkland, RPT, Customer Relations Administrator for Steinway, and co-author of the book "The Official Guide to Steinway Pianos."

Our December meeting will be our annual Holiday Party, to be held on the first Tuesday of the month, December 3, 2013 at 7:00 PM at:

The Inn at New Hyde Park
214 Jericho Turnpike
New Hyde Park, New York 11040
(516) 354-7797

The four-course dinner is $50 per person (including tax and tip) with a cash bar. Please send your reservations and payment to our treasurer:
