Minutes of the October Meeting
by Marty Dinerstein - Secretary

The October 10, 2007 meeting of Nassau PTG took place at Frank & Camille's Piano Center in Carle Place. Seven members and two guests attended. President Mike Slavin called the meeting to order and the minutes were read and accepted.

New Business: We were informed by Home Office that associate members may no longer use the PTG logo after this year. They may list themselves as members of PTG. Also, the RPT logo was changed so that the words "Registered Piano Technician" appear in larger type. Wally Brooks would like to have a general category of Allied Trades to include those who do work other than tuning. A new member, Emily Economone, was added to our chapter by the home office. The chapter was not informed in advance and the member was not present. We will discuss this with the home office. We will have details of our holiday party at next meeting. We also welcomed a visit from Norm and Marilyn Heischober. We hope they will come to more meetings when they are in NY.

Technical: Our technical was on a device to level keys faster. Chris Rawson of Vermont demonstrated this device, which consists of a plastic leveling bar and strips of paper with different thickness and holes in the end so they can be moved to the point that levels the keys. The best part is that it does away with having to remove and replace the action many times while leveling. We thank Chris for his interesting presentation. We also thank Frank and Camille's for the use of their store.

Tech Tip
by Michael Slavin, Chapter President

It is now almost winter, and you should try to remember to remove your glues from your car overnight during the cold season. Constant freeze-thaw cycles can reduce the bonding properties and effectiveness of most adhesives (especially carpenter's wood glues such as Tite-Bond, PVC-E, etc.). And there is also the added inconvenience of trying to make a repair with a glue that is frozen solid or so thick that it will not flow.
