The General Meeting for this month will be on Tuesday, November 14 starting at 8 PM at

The First Church of Baldwin
(United Methodist)
881 Merrick Road
Baldwin, NY

Topic: Voicing Vertical Pianos

Voicing has been a subject handled by many instructors in various ways. Our own Ernie Juhn addresses the subject in his own distinctive way. The problem of voicing vertical pianos seems to be even more complicated due to the fact that it is not easy to access the hammers in the usual way. In this class, some rather unique methods will be explored and demonstrated. Be prepared for some unorthodox procedures. Ernie says, "It's the results that count."

Our December meeting will be our annual holiday party, to be held on the first Tuesday of the month, December 5, 2000, at 7:00 p.m. It will be at the wonderful

LaPace Restaurant
51 Cedar Swamp Road
Glen Cove

The full-course dinner will be $29 per person, with a cash bar. Please send your payments and confirmation to our treasurer:

We hope everyone plans to attend.

Nassau Tech Tip by Paul Eccardt

Key leveling tricks: If one key is a little lower than the others on a grand, instead of taking the action stack off, just lift the key a little and turn the felt punching with a long screwdriver. Turn it enough so that the worn side of the felt is no longer facing the front. If the key is too high and there is no paper under it, take the felt punching out and squeeze it with a pair of duck bills. If you want to do a rough key leveling job, take out the keys and turn each felt punching as I explained before. If you square the keys and needle the balance rail bushings, it will also help in rough key leveling.

These techniques can be used before good leveling jobs too, and on Steinways with accelerated actions.
