Proposed Minutes of the September 2014 Meeting
by Richard Liptzin, Acting Secretary

A special meeting of the Long Island Nassau Chapter, PTG was held on September 9, 2014, at Frank and Camille's Keyboard Center, 229B Glen Cove Road, Carle Place, N.Y. Complementary dinner was served by Camille at 6 p.m. There was no regular business meeting, and no minutes from the June meeting, which was our annual dinner party. Don Mannino from Kawai gave the technical entitled "The Sound of Your Tuning." Don tuned two identical Shigeru Kawai pianos to different stretch values and discussed and compared the two tunings. He presented ways to improve our tunings, which were clarified in a handout booklet as the "Four Dimensions of Tuning." Also addressed were aural versus electronic tunings and devices; and although primarily an aural tuner, Don employs an ETD when he feels it is appropriate. Questions by the members and guests were asked throughout the lecture, which broadened the overall discussion. Don's presentation was excellent and informative, and an exciting opening for our new technical season.
