Tech Tip
by Michael Slavin, RPT

I was recently called to "repair" and "reassemble" an old grand (refinished / no name). Apparently the finisher and movers had removed and lost many parts, and pieces of hardware. Notably, the pedal rods and music desk rails were missing, and needed to be exceptionally long and thick - like none I had ever seen before. None of the replacements available from the supply houses were applicable. A bit of research on the internet turned up a valuable resource I thought I should pass along to all my fellow technicians. Southern Tool Steel, Inc. in Chattanooga, Tennessee stocks brass, steel, copper, bronze, carbon steel, stainless, aluminum, titanium, and other alloys in rods, tubes, sheets, bars, plates, pipes, and other forms, and will sell as few as one piece. Also available are other materials such as Teflon, acrylic, nylon, polycarbonate, nphenolic, polyethylene, polyester, styrene, vinyl, etc. Contact: Samantha Neal at 1-800-647-5188. A catalogue is available.
