Proposed Minutes of the May 2017 Meeting
by Richard Liptzin - Secretary

Piano guild meeting, May 9 at Frank and Camille. Meeting called to order by Mike Slavin at 7 pm.

Technical was part 2 of Voicing by Lee Dobrins. Lee discussed the different voicing techniques used by Steinway, Renner, Kawaii and Yamaha. Steinway emphasized "maximum power and noise" -- then take the noise out. Noise is eliminated by special needling techniques. Renner did not recommend using lacquer too much. They like sanding methods. Kawaii suggests special needing methods. Yamaha has an entirely different theory on voicing -- a kind of "magical" method to get the best sound.

To sum up Lee said voicing takes a lot of time and experience. Keep working at it and experimenting with different voicing parameters. I'm sure Lee would be happy to offer advice to any guild member who asks him. He is a man with much piano expertise. Meeting adjourned at 8 pm.

Secretary's note: "neatness makes for a better job". I recently visited Mike Slavin's piano workroom. I was so impressed with its neatness. Everything was neatly filed and crated throughout the room. That's why Mike's jobs are done right and in the time allotted. Take this advice from Mike -- get neat and organized. It will help.
