Proposed Minutes of the May Meeting
by Allan Schumacker - Secretary

A regular meeting of the L. I. Nassau Chapter PTG was held on May 12, 2009, at Frank and Camille’s Keyboard Center located at 371 Old Country Road in Carle Place, NY. Eight chapter members and two guests attended.

President Michael Slavin called the meeting to order at 7:09 PM.

The minutes as published in the on-line newsletter were accepted by general consent.

The treasurer’s report was accepted as read.

President Slavin announced the following:

The report last month of losing a chapter member for non-payment of dues was incorrect.

The June 9, 2009 dinner will be held at 7:00 PM at Tesoro Ristorante, 967 Old Country Road Westbury, New York 11590. The cost of the full course dinner is $45 per person, including tax and gratuity.

Notice of a prospective member, James West of West Nyack, NY, has been received from the Home Office.

Our program chairman and long-term member, Lenny Genovese, passed away on May 11, 2009. Flowers were sent on behalf of the chapter.

President Slavin asked for a volunteer to serve as program chairperson for the chapter. No one responded.

A discussion ensued regarding possible technical presentations for future meetings. Possible topics and guest speakers mentioned were: Mini technical presentations at a meeting; Dena Torcivia from Steinway & Sons; Ed Dryburgh; and, getting someone from Yamaha Artists Services. Alex Kostakis suggested inviting Eddie Carasco, who does key recovering for Steinway and Sons and builds key-frames from scratch, to give a technical presentation. It was suggested that everyone come up with an idea for one technical presentation that would be informative.

A discussion on ways to increase attendance at chapter meetings and increase membership developed as a result of the previous discussion. Norman Heischober suggested school presentations on piano technology as a way to get students interested in the piano.

The remainder of the meeting was spent discussing our fond memories of Lenny Genovese. It was decided that it was too soon to write an obituary for the Journal. Funeral arrangements were mentioned. The meeting adjourned at 8:10 PM.

Respectfully submitted, Allan N. Schumacker, RPT
