Proposed Minutes of the March Meeting
by Allan Schumacker - Secretary

A regular meeting of the Long Island Nassau Chapter, PTG was held on March 13, 2012, at Frank and Camille’s Keyboard Center located on Glen Cove Road in Carle Place. Seven chapter members and four guests attended.

President Slavin called the meeting to order at 6:45 PM. New chapter members and guests were welcomed.

The minutes for the February 13, 2012 meeting were accepted by general consent.

The treasurer’s report was accepted by general consent.

President Slavin made the following announcements:
  • Election of chapter officers will take place next month. Voting will take place by e-mail.
  • A restaurant has not been selected yet for the dinner meeting in June.
  • The chapter will not be represented in Council this summer since we don’t have an RPT willing to serve as a delegate.

The business meeting concluded at 6:55 PM.

The guest speaker for the evening, Northeast Regional Vice-President Paul Adams, was introduced. The evening’s presentation was in two parts. In the first part, Mr. Adams spoke extensively about the new PTG social media website, my.ptg.org and about his job as NERVP.

As our NERVP, he spoke about long term plans for PTG, which include getting continuing education accreditation from the National Association for Continuing Education. He also mentioned the possibility of PTG requiring its members to take continuing education classes to retain their membership.

In addition to long range planning, the matter of dues collection was discussed. PTG dues invoices are sent out in November, and are supposed to be paid by January 1. There is a grace period during January, but for members that don’t pay their dues on a timely basis, it is the job of the regional vice-president to contact each member to find out if there is a problem and to inform the member of available options.

The second part of the evening’s program was a lecture-demonstration of impact tuning-hammers. Mr. Adams brought with him an assortment of impact tuning-hammers and passed them around. He discussed and demonstrated proper tuning-hammer technique and mentioned that the tool was only useful for tuning vertical pianos. Members were given the opportunity to try out the tool.

The meeting ended at 8:09 PM.

Respectfully submitted,
Allan N. Schumacker, RPT
