The General Meeting

The general meeting for this month will be held on Tuesday, April 12 starting at 6:00 p.m. at:

Important notice:
Please note the early starting time of the meeting, to accommodate the extensive nature of the technical presentation.

There will be no Executive Committee meeting prior to the general meeting.

This month's technical:
Mike Collins of Mason & Hamlin will present an introduction to the new composite action parts from Wessel, Nickel, and Gross. The class will familiarize the technician with important differences from traditional wood parts, as well as the adaptable geometric possibilites of the design. The hands-on presentation will focus on hammer hanging procedures on the composite carbon material, including such topics as:
  • Basic installation
  • Basic hammer preparation
  • Traveling
  • Gluing (With CA glue)
  • Shank trimming
  • Back of hammer machining
  • Shop safety
Repinning procedures for the WNG Solid Duo Bushings will also be covered, including:
  • Removing center pin.
  • Pin replacement
  • Fitting a new center pin.
  • Assembling parts with the new pin.

About our speaker, Michael Collins:
Born and raised in Georgetown, MA, Michael graduated from North Bennet Street School in 1994. He worked at Hubbard Harpsichord for a short time and started at Sanderson Piano shortly after that re-building pianos and doing PianoDisc installations. After 10 years of working with the Sanderson Group, Michael started working for Mason & Hamlin in 2005. He worked in a number of different departments for M&H including PianoDisc installations and training those interested in doing installations. A few years ago Mike began working with Wessell, Nickel and Gross in design quality control and installation. Mike is the chosen WNG representative for training and instruction of these new innovative composite parts.

To all members:
Please bring your dremel tools, heat guns, and folding tables to the class. We will need these for the hands-on demonstration.
