Minutes of the March Meeting
by Marty Dinerstein - Secretary

The March meeting of Nassau PTG was held on Tuesday, March 14, 2006. The meeting started at 7 p.m.at the shop of Paul Keogler. Five members and three guests attended. We discussed the rejection by the PTG Board of changing the name of the chapter to the Nassau-Ernie Juhn Chapter. Our RVP said that this would provide a precedent for other chapters to change their name. Mike Slavin reported that he is looking for place for our June party. He is checking several places with details to follow in future meetings. We were also informed of the sad news that Steve Fairchild Sr. had passed away. The chapter will send a card to his wife and offer our condolences to the family of someone who did a great deal for the Piano Technician's Guild. The business meeting ended at 7:30.

Our technical was by Paul Keogler, on techniques related to refinishing. He discussed materials that we could use to clean soundboards and dull finishes. Paul stressed that furniture polish was not the best material to use on piano finishes. He suggested cleaning the case of dull older pianos with Formula 409 cleaner. For cleaning the soundboards he uses mineral spirits. On the newer type of finishes, a clean rag and Windex without ammonia is the best material to use. He also discussed methods of stripping paint from pianos and retouching areas that were damaged. Paul gave a very interesting presentation and has offered to give another presentation with more information about this topic in the future. We thank Paul for his valuable and interesting presentation.

The meeting ended at 9:15 p.m.
