The General Meeting

The general meeting for this month will be held on Tuesday, March 8 starting at 6:30 p.m. at:

Frank and Camille's Keyboard Center
371 Old Country Road
Carle Place, New York
(516) 333-2811

Please note the early starting time of the meeting, to accommodate the extensive nature of the technical presentation.

This month's technical class will be "Techniques, Concepts, and Tips for Stable Piano Tuning," given by Arlan Harris of the New York City Chapter PTG. Mr. Harris has over three decades of experience as a technician and consultant for many of the world's foremost artists, concert venues, recording studios, and music festivals. He is also highly regarded as a piano restoration expert, and served as a technician for the famous Steinway Hall basement in the 1980s, preparing and selecting pianos for renowned concert pianists. In addition, he has been a troubleshooter for Steinway and Sons in Latin and South America. He brings a breadth of knowledge and experience to this month's presentation, and we are honored to host such an esteemed colleague.

The Executive Committee will meet prior to the general meeting at 5 p.m. at the Olive Garden Restaurant, 1120 Old Country Road, Westbury, diagonally across the street from Frank and Camille's.

Tech Tip
by Michael Slavin, Chapter President

Don Mannino of Kawai Technical Support recommends that when regulating newer Kawai vertical pianos that there should be essentially no lost motion between the jack and the hammer butt. The new jack springs are sufficiently strong to return the jack to rest position while in very light direct contact with the butt buckskin.
