Proposed Minutes of the January 2012 Meeting
by Allan Schumacker - Secretary

A regular meeting of the Long Island Nassau Chapter, PTG was held on January 10, 2012, at Frank and Camille’s Keyboard Center located on Old Country Road in Carle Place. Ten chapter members and six guests attended.

President Slavin called the meeting to order at 7:18 PM. New chapter members were welcomed.

The minutes for the November 8, 2011 meeting were accepted by general consent. Our December meeting was the dinner held at the Tesoro Ristorante in Westbury.

The treasurer’s report was accepted by general consent.

President Slavin made the following announcements:
  • Next month’s meeting will be held on Monday, February 13, instead of February 14, which is Valentine’s Day.
  • A former Associate Member of our chapter is still advertising as being a “Registered Member” of PTG. The matter was again referred to the executive director of PTG, and a second letter was sent to this individual requesting that the false advertising cease, and informing this person of the legal consequences for failure to comply.
  • Election of chapter officers will take place in April. A slate of candidates will be presented in March.

The business meeting concluded at 7:21 PM. The guest speaker for the evening, Michael Cabe of Steinway and Sons, was introduced. Mr. Cabe is the manager of retail services. He informed us that he is not a piano technician but a “Steinway suit”. As of November 4, 2011, the Steinway Service Department has been dissolved. Some of the people working in the department were given jobs at the Steinway factory in Queens, and the rest were allowed to become independent contractors. Fees for tuning and service were discussed. As service manager, Mr. Cabe contacts independent piano technicians to arrange for a piano’s first tuning or to provide warranty service. Numerous questions were asked and answered covering various aspects of a service call to a customer’s home, warranty service, and sales tax.

The meeting ended at 8:00 P.M.

Respectfully submitted,
Allan N. Schumacker, RPT
