Minutes of the January Meeting
by Marty Dinerstein - Secretary

The meeting of January 8, 2002 was at the church on Merrick Road. It started at 8 PM. Six members attended and Lee Dobrins, a guest from the Suffolk Chapter. There were no minutes because the previous meeting was the party. The treasurer's report was read and accepted. Mike Slavin gave a committee report on the Entertainment Committee -- the end of June party will be at Santoli Restaurant in Queens, where we were last June. It promises to be a great event. The business meeting adjourned at 8:30 PM.

Our technical consisted of a video on rebuilding. Lee Dobrins brought the video and the VCR machine. The video described the different aspects of rebuilding a piano. The important points mentioned were preparation and measurement. An important point to remember was marking the parts as to location before disassembling. The video discussed how to measure and remove the soundboard, action repairs, hammer and string replacement, and pinblock replacement. Also mentioned in a full rebuilding were damper replacement and touchweight, as well as voicing and, of course, tuning. We also saw a video about grand regulation, describing the steps in properly regulating a grand action. The meeting ended at 10 PM with the appreciation of all who were there for all the information that they received.

We again thank Lee Dobrins for his assistance in bringing the tapes and video machine.
