The General Meeting

The general meeting for this month will be at our regular meeting place on Tuesday February 13, 2001 starting at 8 PM at:

The First Church of Baldwin
(United Methodist)
881 Merrick Road
Baldwin, NY

We have scheduled Jerry Gravina of the Suffolk Chapter as our guest speaker. Jerry has been a tuner for many years and has been quite successful. He will be discussing his methods of tuning and related topics of interest. Let's all try to attend this most interesting meeting.

Tech Tip by Michael Slavin, RPT

When leveling keys using the straight-edge method, it is generally advised to support the end keys with a stack of front-rail punchings, an upright damper block, or another "jack" of your preference. I find that even greater accuracy can be achieved by also supporting a key in the center of the keyboard (E4 or F4 for the natuarals, D#4 or F#4 for the sharps). This creates a firm "platform" across the full span of the keys which will not yield to the weight of the straight-edge, thus maintaining precise key height.
