Minutes of the December Meeting
by Marty Dinerstein - Secretary

The December meeting was a holiday party which gave all of us who attended a chance to celebrate the holidays and look forward to the new year. We thanked Mike Slavin and the committee for arranging this.

Due to an oversight, the minutes as published in the December newsletter incorrectly stated that "Allan Schumacker said that our ads looked poorly scanned and we suggested contacting the advertisers for new copies."

It should have stated that:

As required by chapter bylaws, Allan Schumacker, as our chapter delegate, reported on the Council meeting that took place in Dallas, Texas, last July.

His report contained the following information:

  1. Council approved the purchase of the new building for the Home Office. The new building was purchased at PTG's bidding price, which was significantly lower than the asking price.
  2. Jim Birch was elected president. Kent Swafford was elected as vice president. Dale Probst was elected Secretary Treasurer, and Paul Kupelian was elected as Northeast Regional Vice President.
  3. He informed us that Paul Kupelian asked him to serve on the Northeast Regional Advisory Board, and had accepted. Norman Heischober had created a Northeast Regional Advisory Board when he served as Northeast Regional Vice President.
  4. He mentioned that Council ruled that test sponsors were required to either destroy or return to the examinee any test results that were on file, once that examinee's upgrade to RPT has been published in the Piano Technicians Journal. The Home office will continue to keep a record of test results on file.
In addition to the highlights on Council actions, Allan Schumacker reported that he had sent out bills to newsletter advertisers, as had been agreed to in the September meeting.

Tech Tip
by Michael Slavin, RPT

A good habit to develop is to check that all hinge pins are in place before lifting the lid of any piano. Avoid serious damage or injury. You can never assume the lid is firmly attached, even visit to visit.
